Allendale, June 26.—The ,County
of Allendale will be host to the
\ largest crow,) that ever visited this
town in ita history if the plans of
the committees now working on the
Semi'Centennial Celebration ' are
reaponded to by the people of this
section, on next July Fourth. The
occasion will be the fiftieth an
niversary of the advent of the first
railroad into this section of the
state, and will be fittingly observed
with ever^ conceivable form of
Fourth of July entertainments. Com
mittees composed of a membership
from practically every organization
in the entire county are cooperating
to make the project the most elabo
rate celebration that has ever been
attempted in this section. The day
will be a home-coming day for
everyone who is interested in the
welfare of the baby county of the
state. The people of Barnwell,
Hampton anj Bamberg counties are
invited to be the guest of the people
of Allendale county on that day.
Each of those counties were at one
time a part of that territory which
now makes up Allendale county and
are therefore highly interested in re
viewing the growth of their off
spring. People from all over the
state and other atates are expected
to be in Allendale on that day.
Only a part of the plana of the day
have ao far been definitely given oat
but these include eneagh to make the
day an interesting one The prin-

ments which will he announced later.
The committee estimates from re
sponse* from all over the~state that
there will he a crowd of at least ten
thousand in the County Seat of Al
lendale county on that day. It will

•ound by . reliable authentic ex-
perimentora we .find that first, that
the use of calcium arsenate with
water •",] syrup was appliad to
young cotton jiid kill some weevils,
but where used entirely through the
season when the cotton gets laree
was not profitable means of weevils
control. Farmers may therefore ure
the syrup method for the next week
or too but not after that. The use
of arsenate in the .dust form is the
only method that holds out much
hopes to the farmer at this time, ff
your cotton is/ a poor stand with
small amount of fertilizer or for
any other Cause would ,not produce
as much as one Half of - a bale of
cotton to the acre were there no
weevils present then it will pay you
to poison. Furthermore if you ex
pect poisoning alone to make a
good crop of cotton then you will
be disappointed. I therefore would
offer you the following suggestions.
First—plow your cotton as often
as possible, twice a week *1 if' you
can, because, in dry weather if the
punctured squares are knocked to
the ground and it is dry and (histy
where they fall they will not mature
a weevil but will dry up.
Second—pick up the first square
that fall and pick as many of the
weevils on the cotton now as labor
coat will permit, thin can be done
with out cost where share croppers
are used. Tie a brush bag or piece
of burlap on your p.ow stork to
brush off the punctured square*.
Third—plow your cotton con
tinuously until the cotton crop Is
matured just before the eottuu be
gins to open
Fourth--If you do the things
listed above. If you have fairly dry |
weather, and If your cotton would
make at least half a hale te the
acre were there ae hall weevil, ami.
