NOTICE OF SALE No Famine in the South It now developes after close in vestigation that there is no famine nor starvation in the South, as was reported, a couple of weeks ago when President Harding called on the Red Cross and the Department of Public Health to go to the assistance of the people of this section of the country. It appears ihat a slight in. crease in the number of pellagra cases gave rise to the unfounded re ports upon which the President based his appeal. The People does not believe, as so many editors throughsut the S >uth do, that Mr. Harding deliberately tried to do the South an injustice but that he wss actuated by the high est motives. However, we have been the victims of a grave injustice and it is up to the President to make amends as best he can. When the President's appeal was first published. The People stated that the South is seeking charity from nobody—-that all the people of this favored section ask is an op portunity to sell their products at a price that will at least insure them the necessities and some of the com forts of life Those who earn their livelihood by the sweet of their brows are certainly as much entitled to a living wage as the white-col la r-d clerks of the cities in the North If Mr. Harding sees fit to make a pwbitc denial ef the "famine-etarvat- lo *~ reports about the South, we would suggest that he also call on the Red Cross to go to the • set stance State of Sputh Carolina County of Barnwell WHEREAS on the 3rd day of August, 19£.l.
