It doesn't pay to tickle the heels of a mule, fool, with a
loaded shot gun, or try to sweep back the sea with a
broom. These are all foolhardy undertakings
It DOF.S pay to have a bank account. You may
be as busy as a mosquito in a bed room, but if you do
not save some of your earn ings you have wasted a lot
of effort. Successful men learn this lesson early in life
and open an account at the Bank and put their moneyto'
work. *

Our Slovenly Speech
These direction* came with a sani
tary nursing bottle:
“When the baby is through with the
bottle it should be taken apart and
soaked in boiling water, washed
thoroughly and then put away in a
clean placfc.”
This is absurd. Of course one knows
that it is the bottle, and not the baby,
that is to be taken apart and soaked,
in boiling water* but common sense
teaches u.s that rather than word
ing of the directions for using.
” But we meet up with equally sloven-
*»•
ly language in ordinary conversation
every day. A great many people who
ought to know better use wretched
grammar habitually, and the tend
ency in this direction seems to be
growing. The doublei negative is
getting to be a minor offense.
It is just as easy a) be correct in
speech as it is to be slovenly. Then
' why not be correct? Say what you
mean, even if you do not always
mean what you say.

Y OU don’t have to "rush the fire”
to bake—two bumersof the New
Perfection Oil Qook Stove will give
you all the heat you need. And you
boil a vegetable and make coffee oh
the other two burners if you wish.
Plenty of heat, just where you want
it and in the right amount—none
wasted. You can regulate it.
The white-tipped flame of the New
Perfection gives an intense heat and
keeps the bottoms of your utensils
clean—doesn’t soot them up. Hence
it lightens labor. And the chimney
is made long for a purpose; every bit
of t!ic oil you use has a chance to
burn up completely and produce its
full share of heat. This is a big item
of fuel saving for those who use the
New Perfection exclusively.
Kitchens equipped with New Per
fections—over 3,000,000 of them—
are invariably cooler and more com
fortable to work in. It’s a great relief
to be rid of coal, ashes, dust and wood
in the kitchen. And there are fewer
corners to collect dirt".
The New Perfection is made
in one, two, three, four and
five-burner sires—warming
cabinet or not, as you prefer.
Of course, you will want a
New Perfection Oven, too.
Aladdin Security Oil gives
uniform, satisfactory results. You
should use it regularly. It is eco
nomical because it’s pure—all heat.
Nn’ Perfection Oil Cook Stores are sold
at most department, furniture and hard'
ware stores.

When we feel disposed to complain
about the mistakes and failures of the
government—city, county,, state or
ntional—let us stop and consider
the kind of men we have chosen to
ninth e goverment, the men we
have put in office.
We voted for Smith because he had
had bad luck and needed a good salary
for a while; we voted for Brown be-'
cause he wanted to move to town and
educate his children; we voted for
Jones because he belonged to our
church or our lodge, and we voted for
Green in order to defeat White; but
we did not vote for a single ond of
these men because we thought they
were specially fitted for the jobs they
'ifpre asking for.
TTie result is that we have a lot of
misfits in office. The office holders aer
all good fellows, no doult but few
of them are good for the particular
duties expected nf„lhem^
The wonder is not that we have
poor government; the wonder is that
our government is not worse than it
is. Hie blame tor poor government
rests upon ourselves rather than up-
uut those whom we have elected to
effice.

The Expectant
Mother
"The Shadow of
Coming Events”
often darkens the
days of the expec
tant mother.
Constipation, a
handicap to the
health and happi
ness of every
woman, becomes
doubly dangerous
to the woman who is preparing to fulfill her highest
duty—maternity.
x The expectant mother mur* nourish two. She must be able to
get rid of a double waste. Failure to do to poisons herself and
the child she is to bring into the world.
Nujol will help her through this trying period.
It works on ay entirely new principle.
Instead of forcing or irritating the system, Sujol simply softens
the food waste.' Thia enables the many tiny muscles in the walls
of the intestine*, contracting and expanding in their nonnal way,
to squeeze the food waste-along so that it passes naturally out
_nf the system. • —; a
Nujol thus prevents constipation because it helps Nature main
tain easy, thorough bowel movements at regular intervals —the
be&hhie&t habit in the world.
