’Thin Issue of The People.
&CARRY
This issue of The People contains
16 pafjes, in marked contrast to the
abbreviated four pajres of the past
several weeks. EijjM pages are de
voted to Williston, her merchants and
the chautauqua, and it is sincerely
hoped that it will accomplish the pur
pose for which it was intended. In
the other eight pages will be fountf
local, county,- State, national and
world news. On account of the rush
in issuing the paper, it was neces
sary to cut short somewhat the a-
mount of local happenings. However,
we feel sure that the other features
will more than offset that.
One particular feature to which we,
desire to call attention is the depart
ment devoted to the affairs of The
American Legion. We have decided
to make this a permanent feature in
The People, and these artic^s will be
supplemented from time to time by
items from the local Post of The Le
gion. We believe this department
will be of special interest to all ex-
service men and their friends.
Next week we expect to begin pub
lication of a fascinating serial story,
“The Mystery of the Silver Dagger.”
It is written by a well known author
and will keep the reader guessing
from start to finish.
State, national and world news is
Well covered, The People, We believe,
being the only paper in Barnwell
County giving its readers this service,
The paper from now on will contain
AT LEAST eight pages each week
and quite often we hope to publish an
even larger number. If you are fyitf"
already a subscriber, it will pay you
to get your name on our subscription
list at once in order not to miss any
of thr g;/jd\thins;;' we have in store
for you. The price is only $1.50 a
year in advance, and the serial story
alone is worth that.

Uncle Fogy, in telling of h is latest experience,
VBy gum, 1 got robbed. I stuck my hands right up in
the a'ir just as they told me to, and they, picked me
dean. Itk a good thing I d idn’t have my gun along—
they’d have got that too.”
t Every once in a While that sort of thing happens. It
can easily be avoided. How? By keeping your money in
our Bank and paying your bills by check. The robbers
may hold you up sometime but they don’t care a “whoop’-’
for your yheck book. It’s money they^ want. Keep
your money in our burglar- proof vault and fool tluTrob

Enjoy Fish Supper.
One of the most enjhyable social
affairs lately was that given by Mr.
A. J. Bennett Tuesday evening of last
week to some of ^ his gentlemen
friends. This was an old fashioned
fish supper served at his home.
There were some 70 invitations sent
out and a large number assembled to
enjoy Mr. Bennett’s hospitality. The
event was one of ti.v series of <ret-
togethi r men s socials which started
some five months ago by the men of
the Methodist Church. They are
proving very popular and considera
ble interest is manifested by (he men
who attend. Mr. Bennett proved a
very genial host and every one went
homo feeling happier for having
gone. Shoit talks were made by. the
following men. R. C. Holman, the
Rev. F. L. Glynnun, Dr. E. L. Patter
son, L. P. Wilson. William McNutv,-
Alberf^Beniiett and Mayor Hurley.
