It was the intention of The People Mr. J. S. Still, a substantial farmer
to address a letter to the members of of the Friendship section of Barnwell
Barnwell County’s delegation to the County, a few miles from Barnwell,

Mr. Still was alone at the time of
the accident, having sent a young man
who was working with him into
another field only a short time before.
The latter stated that he heard the
tree fall and thought that he heard
someone cry out, but paid no partic
ular attention at the time. When he
returned to the field where he had left'

Coroner Halford was summoned to
hold the inquest, the verdict of tho
jury being in accordance with th®

Mr. J. M. Elmer Dead.
After long ill health, Mr. J. M. Ul
mer, aged 77. years, passed away at
2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at his
home in Barnwell. His body was laid
to rest Monday afternoon in th®
Barnwell Baptist Churchyard, Dr. W,
M. Jones conducting the funeral ser
vices.
Mr. Ulmer was a veteran of the
War Between the States, having en
listed in the Confederate Army at the
early age of Ifi, and served through
out the four years of that bloody con
flict with conspicuous gallantry. At
the conclusion of hostilities he fought
the battles of peace no less bravely
than those of war. At an early age
he professed his faith in Christ and
1 was for 27) years superintendent of
the Sunday school and deacon at Al
len's Chapel. He bore his long suf
fering with true Christian fortitude
and answered the last summons o&
the Grim Reaper xvith quiet faith.
He is survived hy his w ife, who was
Miss Mmnie Anderson before her mar
riage; .me daughter, Mrs. Lillian Wil
liams, four sons, Messrs. Henry,
George, John and Tom Ulmer, and
three sisters. Mrs. Rebecca Williams,
Mrs. Pollie All and Miss Jane Ulmer,
xvho have the deep sympathy of many
friends m their bereavement.
