per cent in passenger rates, from
eight to ten per cent in freight tar

ed of the Interstate Commerce Com
mission by the railroads to cover the
$626,000,000 wage award made by
the railroad labor board.

The award adds approximately 21

Railroad officials have declared that

said, to file new tariffs with the inter
state Commerce Commission as soon
as they can be prepared.
Whether the award as given will
stave off the threat ef a general rail
road strike remains to be seen. The

The preeeet cottage le a handsome
, building, situated la a cieanug with
beautiful trees all around The bulg
ing has every comfort, mooing water,
electric light* and steam hnat. Each
girl has a room to hereelf and in addi
tion there are several comfortable
sleeping porches. Downstairs there
is a comfortable living room with a
piano and books. There is also an up
to date laundry and everything in the
building is arranged for convenience
and tomfert.
The schoolroom is on the top floor
of the building and here is exhibited
epecimens of the girls’ work from the
time they enter the school until they
leave. Gome of them can neither read
nor write and the progress that they
make is surprising.
The supervising force of the insti
