breaking of the left front wheel of a
seven passenger automobile, which
caused the car to turn a half somer
sault and land on top of its seven pas
sengers, George Finch, Jr., and Sergt.
John B. White, of Spartanburg are
dead and A. W. Pill and W. A. Patillo
of Spartanburg are in very serious
condition. Marvin Scrulgfcs and W. H.
Cliaton,-—James Blending, represent
ing the Sumter high school, won tho
seventh annual decUlmera’ high school
contest here under the auspices of
Presbyterian College of South Caro
lina. The second best declamaftion
was made by Jack Davis of Clinton
high school and third by Louis Tolle-
son of Gkiffney. The subjects in order
were “A Patriot and a Traitor,”
“There is to Be No Regret” and
“Lasca.”
There was 30 schools entered in the
preliminaries and from these 16 were
selected to go into the finals. The
contest, which is always one of excel
lence, 1 was exceptionally good. Th6
