Former Lieutenant-Colonel Breckin-
k. ridge Says Proposal Is Wrong.
Washington, April 25.—Henry
Breckinridge, assistant secretary of
war during the incumbency of Sec
retary Garrison and who served in
France as a lieutenant colonel of in
fantry, made public tonight a letter
to the chairmen of house and senate
committees dealing with soldier bonus
legislation emphatically opposing any
such proposals.
The bonus proposal is wrong in
principle and unsound economically,
he said, adding that a bonus would
work “injury, not a benefit, both to
the people it is supposed to benefit
and to the country'"
“It la wrong." the letter und. “bo-

assessment per cow was at first $5.00
It was thought advisable to raise this
to $7.50. but before doing so the fact
was made public that up to a certain
date new members would be accepted
at the old rate; and at that time 4”*
persons joined the association.
The above is a part of a weekly
news letter article of April 14th, 1920,
which goes on to say that the asso
ciation was offered $10,000 for one
of their bulls and tells many other
interesting things of value that this
association has done.
Why can’t* we in Barnwell County
have an association like this one?
We hope to be able to organize such
an association during this year, so
will begin work at once. All persons
interested wilt get in touch with Coiin7
