W'illiston, January 13.—The Willis-
ton farmers are too wise to take afty
^ chances on “going broke" this year by
all cotton. Peanuts and tobacco will
be planted in a large way, Mr. Q. A.
Kennedy having planned ^o w devote
fifty acres to the last named crop.
Curing barns on-a number of farms
will be built this Spring.
The contract for Williston’s water-
>vorl;.i has been let ami the Inning uf
the well by Mr. Paul Argo, of North,
is under way and progressing satis
factorily. A 6-inch pipe is being
Used. The water mains will be laid
by Mrr George Odiorne, of Clinton.

A tclophonc message received in'
Barnwell early Wednesday evening
contained the shocking news of tho
death of Mr. William Hansford Dun
can, C lerk of Court for Barnwell
County w’hich occurred at 6 o’clock at
an Augusta hospital, following an op-
eratibn^for appendicitis. Mr, Duncan
was stricken late, Sunday night, while
at the railroad station awaiting the
arrival of his wife’s remains, and
was taken to Monday night
tho-optyation being performed Tues
day ^morning. "As stated in last
week’s issue of The People, his con
dition w*as said to be favorable and
his friends here were entirely un
prepared for the news that he had
passed away. Mr. Duncan’s death
was doubly sad, in that his wife had
answered the last summons only three
