No 1-Coot Letter Pea tag* Hero.
Postmaster Deason states that since |
the first of July s number of persons
have dropped letters in the mail box
at the postoffice for city delivery with
one-ccnt stamps attached to them.
He wishes to call attention to the fact
that there is no onc-ccnt letter pos
tage rate ler the Barnwell postoffice.
The impression appears to prevail
among sotne that when war-tiihe pos
tal rates were discontinued on July
1, letters could be mailed for town
i ’ ..
delivery at the old rate of one cent
each, but this is not the case. Barn
well has not had one-cent letter pos
tage sinct the inauguration of mail
delivery by carrier, at which time the
rate was advanced to two cents. How
ever, when war-time postal rates were
made effective, the rate of two cents
for city delivery letters was not in
creased. The two-cent rate for R. F.
D. letters from the Barnwell office
also was not changed. The rate on
all other letters was increased to three
cents. When war-time postal rates
were discontinued the identical rates
prevailing before became effective,
which is two cents for all letters mailed
at the Barr.well postoffice, no matter
what points they are to be delivered.

Mr*. Jane Killingtworth died at
the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A.
Meyer, at Meyer’s Mill, Saturday *
night, July 5th, of heart failure. Her
body waa laid to rest the following .
