office looking over a copy of The Peo
ple. Being impressed with the small
amount of local advertising he said:
“You are publishing one of the best
weekly newspapers in the State; you
seem to have a good town here and
the surrounding country is prosper
ous, hut what in the world is the mat
ter with your local merchants that
they don’t advertise? hy, if you is
sued a paper as good a* this in my
town you* columns would be tilled
with home advertising’’’

Little fntcrest, in Election.
Little interest was taken in Tues
day’s election to confirm the Demo-
! eratic nomination of Mr. A. M. Kenne
dy, of Wi’liston. No election what-
"ever was held in Barnwell and it is
understood that such was the case at
the other precincts in the county with
the possible exception of Blackville
and Williston, the managers at those
places being the only ones who called
: for ballots and boxes. It frs unfortun-

ate that such conditions are allowed
to prevail and it is this lack of intcr-
| (that will eventually give another
party a fooihold in this State.
