The following table will be of serv
ice to the Individual who plans to
save systematically throughout the
year by, means of War Savings
Stamps. The stamps draw four per
cent Interest compounded quarterly.
Each 1919 War Si rings Stamp was
worth last January $4 12. Each stamp,
because of the interest that is corm
pounded, costs one cent more each
month, so that next January it will
cost $4 24 and at the end of five y<yir?
it will b* worth $5.
Thrift Stamps are of the denomi
nation of 25 co$t* and are the means
1 by which one may accumulate small
savings until a sufficient amourtf is
; saved to purchase a War Savings
Stamp. They ara invaluable for the
. thrifty saver who can lay aside only
,& small amount at a time.
Cost
A* *8oori as' he accumulates sixteen
Thrift Stamps he may exchange them
for a War Savings Stamp* by paying
the few cents additional to. make up
the pnrcha.se price of a War Savings
Stamp for that month.*
Thus if the Thrift Stamp saver col
lected his sixteen stamps in May, it

convert them into one War Savings
Stamp. In June it costs 17 cents'addi
tional and so on, and then on January
1. 1924, less than five years after the
exchange, the War Saving? Stamp will
he worth $5 and tbe government will
pay that amount for it.
In the table below the second -ol-
umn shws that the person who in
vests a little more than $100 a month
for eight months of this year, will
have paid in before January 1, 1320,

three-cent postage, and on all post
cards which now require two-cent

The i>ost office department is going
to meet the reduction squarely. The
Barnwell post office will not redeem
the three-c^nt stamps after July 1,
but will take back all three .cent
stamped envelopes and will give in
their place envelopes hearing two cent
postage without loss to the patron.
I^K-al business firms, it was stated,-

cent stamped envelopes. Due to price
increase however, in white paper the
new gi vemment rates on envelopes i X

than heretofore. !
The incieased stamp tax went into «£♦
effect <*n Octeber 2, 1U17, and was or-
deriMl reduced buck to its normal status
on the coming July 1, when the recent
