General W. W. Moore, of Columbia,
spent the week-end in the city, it js
understood that he contemplates ex
tensive improvements to the post of
fice building.
The cotton market has been advanc
ing by leaps and bounds during the
past several days, the advance Monday
being nearly two cents a pound. One
farmer sold- nine bales here Monday
morning at 31 cents.
Mr. B. B. Baxley, the mail carrier
on route No. 2 was sick a few days
last week. While Mr. Baxley was in
disposed his son, Mr. W. L. Baxley
performed the services on the mail
route.
Mr. H.'L. O’Bannon has returned
from Columbia where he went to take
Mrs. O’Bannon to consult a throat*
specialists. Mrs. O’Bannon is still un- |
der the care of her physician but is
expected home early next week.
Mr. A. P. Givens, of Williston route
No. 1; was in the city Saturday and
called at The People office to renew’
his subscription. He reports that the
farmers in this section are keeping
“jam-up” with their work in spite of
the recent heavy rains.

are unusual facts—intensifying

Dodge Brothers Cars have always
manifested.
Dodge Brothers car was the only
one of its class approved and
adopted by the War Department
In a separate Ordnance Works,
built especially for the purpose,
costing millions of dollars and
employing thousands of their
skilled motor workmen. Dodge
Brothers undertook an important
duty designated by the War
Department
to furnish their cars as they were
needed.
They were furnished, not in
hundreds, but in thousands—both
for the training camps here, and
for service in Belgium, France
and Italy.
The record of those thousands of
camp and army cars is one in
which any owner may feel the
utmost pride and satisfaction.

Their performance justified the
compliment implied in their
selection by the Government. .
The great works in which nearly
three hundred thousand of their
cars have been produced in the
past four years furnished a vast
store-house of human energy
and equipment for the ordnance
work.
Naturally, it will take time to
adjust the motor works to its full

missioned last week by W. Banks
Dove, Secretary of State, was the
Barnwell Standard Warehouse Com-
pany, of Barnwell, with a proposed
capital stock of $10,000. The peti
tioners are J. A. Porter, N. G. W.
Walker, S. E. Moore and J. E. Harley.
The new company proposes to erect
a warehouse with a capacity of 5,000
bales of cotton and is also'considering
the iostaUatlon of a compress. ~
