Highlv Esteemed Barnwell Man Died Tuesday in Charlotte, N. C. Farmers Union Mercantile Co, “Everything for Everybody” Barnwell, S. C. 817,000 GARS WERE SCRAPPED IN 1917 and most of them won only middU-agod Mr. A. P. Cornell, of Barnwell, died Tuesday morning at 7 o’clock in a hos pital at Charlotte, N. C., afWr an ill ness of several weeks. Though not unexpected, the news of his death was a shock to his friends here and carried sadness into every home in the com munity. Mr. Cornell was a native of Ithaca. N. Y., coming to Barnwell in 1898 as a civil engineer, being engaged in the building of the Florence-AugusU branch of the Atlantic Coaat Line Railroad. Hia modest manner and place in the hearts of the people About two years after coming to Barn well he married Mias Marie Tobin, daughter of Mra. Laura C. Tobin, three children bleaainfp the union. Although the nature of hia work necessitated his absence from Barnwell most of the time, hia family made thia their home dr**ng ♦hr winter montha. Mr. Cornell cornea of a famous fami ly. h*a grandfather being the founder of Cornell Univeraity. Hia father waa a noted civil engineer and hia un cle was Governor of New York dur ing the civil war.
