A writer in the Saturday Evening
Post tells of a beautiful custom tfiat
has been inaugurated in France and |
that is making great headway
throughout that country.
Some months ago, the people in a
French port where thousands of our j
bejri have landed and where quite a
number of them are buried in a little
God*s Acre, wssnt to the commanding j
officer and asked permission to adopt
the American dead. When pressed !
fer an explanation, they told the offi
cer that practically every family in
that town, which was far from the
battle front, had lost some membei* of
the family—husband, son or brother
► —and that possibly they would never
f see their last resting places. For
this reason they desired to do for
America's heroes what they could not
do for their own—keen their graves
green. Permission w s readily grant
ed and now visitor* see these people
working daily in that hnllowe 1 spot.
Grass grows ever every isrnvr to hide
the raw earth and tbe flower* are
kept fresh and fragrant.
From thia humble lieginning, the
Idea took quick hold upon the French
paople and spread from town to town.

Williaton, Nor. 23.—After a brave
fight for life, Mr*. R. F. Dubose died
at her residence here on Thursday
night, at the age of 41. Mrs. Dubose
was bom Miss Sarah E. Griffin, 'of
Manning, and was married in 1902 to
Mr. S. M. Youmans, who preceded her,
leaving one child, Miss Virginia You
mans. In 1918 Mrs. Youmans married
Mr. R. F. Dubose. Mrs. Dubose was
of an attractive personality, and pos
sessed a large circle oif friends. Slve
was a consistent Christian and a de
voted member of the Williston Bap
tist Church. Although a resident of
this town for only two years, yet she
had made a large place for herself in
the hearts of the -commuiity. In ad
dition to her husband and daughter
as above she leaves to mourn her loss
her mother, Mrs. T. E. Griffin, and the
following brothers and sistersi Miss
Ethel Griffin, Mrs. J. C. Geddings,
Mrs. J. Foy Justice, and Mr. J. P.
Griffin of Hendersonville, N. Crr and
Messrs. L. B. and H. L. Griffin of
Florence, S. C. «
The interment waa made at Calvary
Church in Clarendon County.

her daughter, Maud Duncan, to Mr.
Leon Milburn Coward, an Saturday,

Williston, Nov. 12.—Mrs. P. V. Mat
thews died at her residence on Sun
day night after an illness of several
weeks. Prior to her marriage many
years ago to Mr. P. V. Matthews, of
Williston, she was Miss Mary Barr,
of Blackville. The .interment was
made in the Williston cemetery.

of Rev. J. D. Huggins, pastor of the
Denmark Baptist Church. This union
*n session at Ghent’* Branch Church,
Satuday, Sept. 28th, 1918, appointed
a committee of three, with Kev. D. W.
Heckle as chairman, to draft suitable
^resolutions in reference to the death
of Brother Huggins. Our brother was
a union meeting man, giving much
time, thought, energy, service an<^
encouragement to this work. He took,
the position that his time, talent, pres
ence and helpfulness belonged to ev
ery session of the union, always ready,
even anxious to do his part, which he
did well. Not egotistic, but never
shirking duty. His presence meant
life to our union meetings. Deeply
interested in Kingdom work, encour
aging others to be the same. Full of
wit and humor, which he used to good
advantage in discharging his duty.
He loved his brethren and the cause
of his Lord. To know, was to love
him. To say that we miss him does
not express our feelings. Therefore,
be it Resolved:
L That we bow in humble sub
mission to our Father's will, who do-
eth all things well.
2. That this union has lost one qf
its most energetic members in the
death of Brother Huggins, which oc
curred AugUkt 5th, 1313.
