In view of the fact that the Hun
government has signified its accept
ance of the terms set forth by Pres
ident Wilson as essential to peace, in
his address to Congress on January
8th last, we. think it well to acquaint
our readers with the President’s four
teen points, which are as follows:
1. Open "covenants of peace, openly
arrived at, after which there shall,
be no private international under
standings of any kind, but diplomacy
shall proceed always frankly and in
the public view.
2. Absolute freedom of nav^Pation
upon the seas, outside territorial wa
ters, alike in peace and in war, ex
cept as the seas * may be closed in
whole or in part by international ac
tion for the enforcement of-, interna
tional covenants. '■
3. The removal, so far as possible,
of all economic barriers and the es
tablishment of an equality of trade
conditions amoung all the nations con
senting to the peace and issbriating
themselves for its maintenance.
4. Adequate guarantees given and

This, too, is upon the assumption-
on the side of liberality—that none of
the people who subscribed to the Sec-
on-1 I^oan subscribed to the Third.
This we know, of course, is not the
case. |
What can those people who are able
to buy s:iy-tfr extenuation ? How can
they ever look a returned soldier in
the eye? What will be their relation
to those who have dpne their part
when we show an honor roll of deeds
done after the War?
