THURSDAY, AUGUST 23TH, 191*.
The Navy Needa Recruits.
It seems to be the prevailing opin
ion among many people in this section
of the country that the United States
Navy has more men enlisted than it
can handle, but that it is an erroneous
belief is proved by the following ar
ticle that The People has just rsseived
from the Recruiting Officer in Colum
bia:
‘The United States Navy, our coun
try’s first line defense, is opm now for
unlimited numbers This order which
has just been received at the Main
Recruiting Station for the Stele. Co
lumbia. gives an opportunity to

Since moving lute the new room
the Red Croat Chapter has seemed te
take on new lift. Our members are
soon to be listed for regular work,
four at a time, cutting out the bed
shirts and arranging them in separate
rolls id be given out for making.
The new and handsome sign just
put up on the Red Cross room is the
frift of Major Pat Drew. The Chap
ter members certainly do appreciate
it. These acta of interest in the work
are most encouraging and show how
our people sre putting their efforts
in the Red Cross work.
Mrs. Lena Davies has gotten some
large, beautiful placards of Welcome
done in colors to put up in the room,
emphasizing the spirit of welcome to
all who come.
Two more good sized, well made
tables have been donated for cutting
purposes, but more especially for use
in the surgical draaaing class, which
we hope will begin early in Septem
ber.
The talk at the Baptist Church on
Wednesday night by Mr. Roland
Campbell of Anderson, just returned
from France was truly inspiring and
instructive. The money taken ia at
the door was divided with this chap
ter. Our sliotment wag thirty-five
