The South and the War.

provide her own food and feed, she is

Bamberg, Feb. 16.—William G. Hut
to, progressive farmer and busineaa
man, passed away at his home in this
city yesterday morning at 11 o'clock
after a lingering iPness. Mr. Hutto
was 54 years of age and was ill for
more than a year, having been con
fined to his bed for weeks and being
unconscious for several days .before
his death. His death, was therefore,
not unexpected, but nis family, among
whom there are Several small children,
have the sympathy of this community.
Mr. Hutto was originally from the
Govan section and spent his entire life
in this county, where he had hundreds
of friehds who admired him for his up
right character and strong personal
ity. Many years ago he became a
member of the Methodist Church and
had consecrated his life to the Chris
tian faith. He had been married three
times, first to Miss Janie Milhoua of
Denmark, this county. She preceded
him to the grave some 20 years ago.
His second wife was Miss Mamie Lou
Sanders of Sumter, who also died a
number of years ago, while his third
wife, who survives him, was Mrs. H.
Klugh Faust of this place.
Mr. Hutto had made his home here
for the past several years.
The funeral and interment occurred
this morning at 11 o’clock at Salem
Church in the Govan section, the ser
vice being in charge of the Rev. Ax-
hide Sassard, Mr. Hutto's pastor. Mr.
Hutto is survived by his wife, and by
one sister. Mrs. J. W. Ray, of Govan, a
brother. T. A. Hutto, of Blackville and
the following children: Mrs. M. K
Long, of Clyo, Ga.. Mist Guseic Hutto
of this city, now teaching in the Sum

If the Northern troops were in our
camps at Columbia we might think
that pneumonia was caused from a
change of climate but when we send
our best and healthiest young men to
the army, (which of course we have
a perfect right to do) we should reas
onably expect the best of care taken
of them and if our name was Richard
1. we would bark like all Forty till
the powers that be would hear our
voice in defence of the youth of land
whether it done any good or not, we
feel individually like we had ample
protection from all —— wheth
er on land or Sea and our young men
need is a chance to show their fighting
qualitys and while the country is de
pending on them for protection some
body should see to it that they are
properly cared for, then when they
get over there it is our opinion that
the Germans and their intolerable Al
lies will be destroyed without remedy
and that the war will end before you
could fix for it.
