Mr. G. W. Morris, of near Olar, cele
brated his 79th anniversary at a birth
day dinner Thursday, October 25th.
About 50 members of the family were
present.
Among the visitors from Barnwell
to the State fair in Columbia last
week were Messrs. J. M. Ryan, F. H.
Huggins, B. P. Davies, L. G. Richard
son, Angus Patterson, W. D. Harley,
Nick Coclin, S. E. Moore, Martin Best,
Thos. M. Boulware, E. F. Woodward
and H. W. Sanders. ■

Notice is hereby given that an elec
tion will be held at Hilda, S. ( on
November 10th. 1917* for the purpose
of electing an Intendant and four war-
for the town of Hilda. No^ per-

services, and along with his applica
tion he had sent testimonials from
many of the most prominent men of
the State. He has Just been notified
that there are a great many applica
tions already on file and that his serv
ices there will hardly be needed.
Having thus offered his services to
the government in any capacity and
then especially in the judge advocate
general's department, and his offer
having been declined, he feels that he
has discharged -his duty in that res
pect and will now turn his attention
to such further service as he may be
able to render his State. He will of
fer to South Carolina as a candidate
for governor for the same faithful, im
partial and devoted service, he says,
that he has rendered as a public offi
cial in the past, and that he has ten
dered the national government in the
war emergency. •
Mr. Peeples says he will not wait
to be conscripted, but standing upon
the Democratic principle of a free bal
lot and a fair count, he offers his
whole services, not to any particular
class, but to all the people of his State.

the 15th day of October, 1917 to the
15th day of March, 1918. inclusive.
January 1, 1918, a penalty of 1 par
cent, will be added.
February 1, 1918, a penalty of 1 per
cent, will he added, making a total of
2 per cent, for February.
March 1st to the 15th, 1918, inclus
ive a penalty of 5 per cent, will be
added, making a penalty of 7 per cent,
to March 15, at which time the tax
books will close.
