Important Meeting of County Def Cunndl Held Here Monday! A very important meeting of the Barnwell County Council of Defense was held at Barnwell on Monday to perfect the county organization for a successful canvas of pur homes duHng the food conservation week. In addi tion to the township chairmen there were present A. M. Kennedy, county chairman, J. E. Johnston, of Fairfax, county campaign manager to handle distribution of cards, and other repre sentative citizens. When the county was organized some months *go v township chairmen were appointed in each township. These were appointed today to super intend food conservation in their town ships. To assist them the school trus tees of each school district in the town ship were appointed as lieutenants. The township chairmen were instructed to ‘Call a meetingof their tpwnship work ers as early as possible to. map out completely the work in their town ships, and these are expected to serve without further notice of appointment. They are authorized to call upon any agencies in their townships, such as schools, to assist them. The colored people are organized on the township basis and will handle their work through their own leaders and yet in such a manner as to assist and be sub- ordinate to the white township chair men. The township workers are to render all needed assistance to the can vas that will be conducted by the churches during the same week. Re J. D.
