Dunbarton, May 20’.—According to
previous announcement, a large* as
semblage collected at the Dunbarton
school on Friday gvening to witness
the closing exercises of one of the
most successful terms the school has
enmyed. As early as 8 o’clock the
lance auditorium was filled, many pa
trons and friends of the school having
difficulty in securing seats.
The pupils were handsomely dress
ed, the national colors predominating
in their costumes. These young peo
ple had been drilling for some time in
expectation of the last great day, and
their fpretty costumes, the regularity
of the military step, the sweet child
voices, the music of the patriotic
songs, the miriad of national flags,
the unison of their movements made
one feel that the military spirit had
surely taken firm hold on the people.
The writer could not help contrasting
the old times with the new—the little
school house in the lane beside the
handsome two-story brick building of
commodious rooms and large audi
torium, nicely furnished with modern
fixtures, of the present days.
Too much praise cannot be be
stowed upon Mr. William Dicks and
the other trustees in providing the
children with first class applisnees.
Hpw it would astonish Mr..Caleb Kill-
ingsworth and others who have passed
beyond if they could return and mark
the change! ^

munity. He ho* lieen the backbone of
the Baptist ('hurch and of many mu
nicipal and bu*mc4* enterprise* at
well; and his blameless, unselfish life
ha* had o wonderful influence in Barn
well’s community life. Some years
ago, a forml/ resident here on a visit
said, “Barnwell has a charm no other
town possesses and I do not know what
that charm can be unless it be Mr.
Manyille.” Many prominent citizens
owe their start to this worthy man.
He served throughout the war, holding
offices of trust, and, it is interesting
to note, lives now in the same large
house where he took the oath of al
legiance to the United States.
Henry Ward Beecher said, “Well
married, a man is winged” and doubt
less that is the cause of all this great
man’s greatness. Sorrow and trouble
in large measure have come to this
pair; but the sweet serenity of their
lives discloses an inner source of pow
er; and now in the evening of life,
they hold a place in the hearts of the
people that it would be hard to fill.
We all know them, love them, and re
vere them. The wide popularity and
high esteem in which they are held is
attested by the large number of call
ers who were glad to write their names
in the bridal register provided for the
occasion by Mr. Jacob Cohen.
