one might be led to believe that in
“the low country” a majority mf the
people are illiterates. As a matter of
fact, Barnwell County, one ef the ‘How
country” counties, is well up among
the leaders in the State in the per
capita expenditure for education—in
fact, it leads some of the “up coun
try” counties along educational lines.
We might call to Brother Wallace’s
attention the fact that Barnwell’s $30,-
000 school building is adequate for ev

Mr. W. H. Hartzog, for many years
a resident of this city, died at his
home in Barnwell last week after a
long illness. His body was laid to
rest in the Episcopal Churchyard.
