RreacheF an*J K. Netties. Mr. Rreach-
t*r was a prominent citizen of Brunson
and was a fitr nior hoolmate (,f Mr.
Rightsey.
It seems that on Thuwday previous ,
to the killing, Mr. I’naeher and Mr.
Rightsey had some difficulty over some
foodstuff claimed by a former tenant
of Rightsey’s, who had moved onto
Rrea* her.'s place, the provisions Jjeinft
held by Rightsey for payment of
claimed indebtedness of the tenant to
Rightsey.
Friday morning, Rightsey anticipat
ing fur ther tn uble, phoned Sheriff
Rightsey, who resides in Brunson, to
go to his home and protect him.
Soon after the arrival of the sheriff
and a deputy at Rightsey’s, Preacher
came up in h*.s automobile, accompa
nied by Nettles and followed by two
wagons evidently for the purpose of
conveying the foodstuff ,n dispute.
Mr ITeacher entered the yard of
Mr. Rightsey, followed by Nettles and
when within about three paces of the
steps of the house, Mr. Rightsey is
said to have fired from a front window
both barrels of a shotgun loaded with
buckshot into -he laxly of Preacher.
Then, stepping to the front porch, he
fired two loads of buckshot into the
boily of Nettles, who was at a greater
distance away, and near the gate.
Nettles is survived by his wife and
several small children and Preacher by
his wife and three small children, an
aged father, with whom he lived and
two brothers, all of prominence and
means.
Mr. Rightsey is one of the most pros
perous farmers of the community.
The jury of inquest failed to reach
a verdict and adjourned to meet again
Monday next.
Mr. Rightsey, on the advice of conn-
sel, surrendered himself to Sheriff
Rightsey.
