Mi*. Blease held a considerable lead over his opponents, but
lacked more than 8,000 of having the clear majority necessary
for election on the first ballot. The second primary will be held
two weeks from Tuesday. The vote, as tabulated up to 1
o’clock Wednesday stood: Cole L. Blease, 43,673; Richard
I. Manning, 20,067 ; Robert A. Cooper,23,005.;.John T. Dun
can, 20*2. ———
' For other State offices the results were not long in doubt.
Andrew J. Bethea of Columbia, lieutenant governor, was an easy
winner over Dr, E. L. C. Adams, also of Columbia, who opposed
him for re-election.
Williams Banks Dovo of Columbia was nominated for secre
tary of state by a large majoiity, defeating Geerge W. Wight
man of Saluda. * ; -

For railroad commi"«icii James Cansler of Tir/nh- a peren

viout elections.

CLERK, MASTER, CORONER
RETURNED BY BIG VOTE
SECOND RACE NECESSARY FOR SENATE, HOUSE OF REPRESSN^h*
TIVES, SUPERVISOR AND COUNTY COMMISSIONER,
Incomplete return from Barnwell county show the election
of Duncan, O’Ban non and Halford for Clerk, Master and Coro
ner respectively, on the first ballot, each of the winners having
a safe margin of several hundred votes.
In the race for State Senate, J. Henry Johnson of Allendale,
and A. B. 1’atterson, incumbent, Barnwell, will run over in the
second primary, the former having a lead of 70 votes.
On the face of the returns for candidates for the House of
Representatives, the indications are that no one has been elected
(n the first ballot, although there is a possibility that Season
will he. As the votes staud at the time of going to press the
second race will he between Cole, Davis, Ellis, Hutson, Owens
and Searsoti;
Diamond and Dyches are well in the lead for Supervisor,
each having over 500 votes. The few remaining boxes will not
materially affect the standing of the candidates in the race.
A^second primaiy will be necessary in the County Commis
sioner’s race between the following candidates : Dunbar, Owens
Ray, Barker, Moody, and either Walker, Parker or Allen, the
three last named candidates having approximately the same
number of votes, with eight l>oxes to hear from.
E. W. Holman was reelected Magistrate at Barnwell. J. E.
Tobin was re-elcted Magistrate at Allendale. N. AyHiers at Hilda.
•Wooley.has apparently defeated Kitchings at" williston by the
narrow margin of three votes. At Ulmer W. L. Brant and W. J.
Harter, will run ov*r. B< nnett re-elected without opposition at
Baldoc and Anderson at Dunbarton. No returns were received
fmm* "rim rw<-*> at* Bennetts Sprutge.— — -*
.The telephone service Tuesday night was exretnly poor and
The People regret its inability to give complete returns in the
various county races.
The vote for Governor in Barnwell County is extremely close
in Bajnwell County, Blease leading Manqing by three votes..
Three U>xes that went against Blease two years ago have no! '
been heard from and thgoutlook is that present Governor will
lead in this county by about ten votes. Cooper received a very
tlattering vote in this county. All of the Auti-Blease candi
dates for minor State offices ran well ahead in Barnwell County.
