At a mark of appreciation of her
services as principal of the Sumter
primary school, Miss E. W. McLean,
who is visiting her sister, Mrs. R. S.
Bailey, received * check for $100 a
few days ago from the Board of Trus
tees of the Sumtjer schools. This is
over and above her regular salary as
principal.
Barbecue.
There will be a barbecue dinner and
political meeting at Hagood’s Mill on
Friday, August 18th. The public is

afternoon for a viait to New York

Mr. B. B. Easterling, local dealer
for the Dodge automobile, has sold
nearly two carloads of these popular
machines in the past several days.
The purchasers are as follows: Dr.
D. K. Briggs, Blackville, roadster; Dr.
R. C. Kirkland, Barnwell, roadster;
Mr. L. C. Bennett, Appleton, touring
car; Mr. Walter Warren, Appleton,
touring car; Mr. D. W. Brown, Mey
er’s Mill, touring car. Mr. Easterling
is expecting another shipment within
the next few days and will be glad to
give prospective purchasers a demon
stration.

week from Appleton, where she spent

Mrs. A. J. Stone and little daughter,
Anniemay, have “returned to their
home in RowesvDle after a pleasant
visit to her son, Mr. M. D. Stone, of
this city.
Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Davies and little
son, Ben, Jr., and Mr. Oscar Birt visi
ted Aiken Tuesday morning.
Mr. James J. Ray, of HeMing
Springs, was a visitor here Monday.

Capt. N. M. Walker, of Appleton,
was in the city Monday to attend the
meeting of the Board of County Com

The Rev. S. W. Henry requests that
all parents who have children to be NORFOLK, YA_
baptized will endeavor to have them at
church Sunday morning, that the rite
of baptism may be administered.
Mr. S. A. Wise, of Williston, died in
s Columbia hoCpiul early Monday
morning, after an illness of several
weeks. His body was carried to his
home and interment was made Tues
day morning in the Williston ceme
tery, the Rev. W. M. Jones conduct
ing the funeral services in the pres
ence of a large concourse of sorrowing
relatives and sympathetic friends.
Mr. Wise was s prominent business
man of Williston and took an active
interest in political affairs. He was a
man of sunny disposition and num
bered his friend* by the score. He ia
survived by bis wife, two little sen .
on* daughter, and one sister, Mrs. G.
W. Greene, of Williston.
