houses were destroyed. The total
value of the houses was about two
million, two hundred and fifty thou
sand dollars.

ing tbe old federal building, were

of the homeless families.
Sightseers thronged the burned
districts and an occasional small out
break of flame served to keep up In
terest. The streets are being rapid
ly cleared of household goods, which
had been scattered helter-skelter.
Much property of this character was
destroyed after having been taken
from burning or threatened build
ings.
The fire companies from other
tfities left during the day and the
Augusta fire department was in com
plete control In the fire zone Thurs
day night. The department waa entt-
