The residence of Mrs. J. W. C. Reed
caught fire last Wednesday morning
and but for the prompt action of vol
unteer fire-fighters would probahly
have been destroyed. A large por
tion of the roof was burned. It is
thought that the fire- started from a
park from one of the chimneys.

The residence of C. A. Best. Esq..,
was threatened with destruction by
(ire Saturday. The cook, it is said, had
carelessly placed a. box of hot ashes
on the hack porch. When discovered
the fire was making fairly rapid head
way on the lattice enclosure of the
porch and but for the quick work of
Mr. Best’s two small sons the dam
age would probably have been serious.
