The People received last week the
initial number of The Hampton Court;
ty Herald.,, It contained 14 pages of
good live local and general news and
well displayed advertisements. If
each issue is as"excellent as the first'
a bright future is in ’store for the
publication. The Herald is backed
by a number of the leading business
and professional men of Hampton
County. It has our best wishes for a
long and prosperous career.

Two esteemed suinscnbers told. The
People Monday that they g?»1P a better
idea of the progress of the European
war from the news in this paper than
they did by reading the dailies. This
is only another instance in which The
People excels.

New Candidates.
The People carries the announce
ments of twp new candidates this
week—the Hon. R. B. Pickling, for the
Senate, and the Hon. J. W. Folk', for
ro-election to the House of Represn-
tatives. . Reference to Mr. Tickling's
candidacy is made elsewhere in this
issue. Mr. Folk needs no introduction
to the people of the county. He made
an excellent race two years ago, and
during his incumbency in office has
vindicated the confidence placed in him
by^the voters of the county. He says
he' will conduct his campaign this
year on the same high plane and if
re-elected will devote his energies to
wards the betterment of conditions.
Last week The People published the
announcement of Mr. E. G. Bolen, of
Barnwell, for Supervisor. Mr. Bolen
made an excellent race last year, hav
ing been in the s^pond primary against
the present incumbent. Tie aays that
he is receiving encouraging. reports
from his friends throughout the coun
ty and is confident of election this
year. i
