Drew spent the week-end in the city with his family. He reports business as booming, his sales running far ahead of last year’s. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Brown, who have .beedgn Aiken for the past two weeks, where the former is engaged at Court, spent the week-end here. Mrs. M. J. Pate is expected home this week from North Carolina, where she has been spending the summer with relatives and friends. In mentioning the approaching birth day of Prof. W.W. Hart’s birthday last week, the date was given as October 15ih. It should have been the 16th. E. F. Boylston, R. B. Pickling, E. C. Matthews, J. W. Hair and the Rev. J. K. Goode motored over from Blackviile Sunday afternoon to attend the funeral of C. B. Swan. Quite a number of Mason! from Har mony Lodge No. 17 went over to Dun barton yesterday to attend the funeral of B. F. Baxley, who died in Georgia the first of the week. Mrs. B. P. Davies and little son, Ben, Jr., went up to Charlotte, N. C., Friday to visit Mrs. Lena Davies at Queens College. They were accompainad as far as Columbi* by Mr. Davies. S. R. Boylston, of Blackviile, N. M. Walker, of Appleton, and J. M. Weath- ersbee, of Rosemary township, were in the city Monday to attend a meeting* of the board of county commissioners. The Barnwell Bond and Mortgage Company has been .commissioned with a capital of 110,000. The petitioners are: Harry D. Calhoun, E. A. Brown, J. J. Bush, J. A. Porter and L M. Cal houn. There were 13,796 bales of cotton ginned in Barnwell county prior to September 25, es compared with 20,421 to the aeme date in 1914, .• the county ranking third in the State. In Bamberg county 6,992 bales have brm ginned this year as compared with 9,566 La 1914. About twenty-five automobiles filled With Blackviile boosters took Barnwell by storm Tuesday afternoon, the pur- pose of the trip being to advertise the Chautauqua to be held in the bust ing little city in the near future.* The visi- tors were given a warm Welcome by the people of Barnwell/many i of whom no doubt will attend the sessions of the Gen. W. W. Moore, of Columbia, is preparing to erect a store building be tween the stores ofLemon Brothers and the Barnwell Fruit Company, facing the Circle, which will be occupied by 0. H. and M. C. Best as a drug store Messrs. Best have already purchased handsome marble and mahogany' fix tures and hope to be ready for business by the 15th of November., They expect to have one of the most up-to-date pharmacies in Western Carolina. Miss Katherine Patterson, who has been spending the past week in Co lumbia, returned this afternoon to her home in Barnwell. Miss Patterson has shared in the round of charming pf- fairs given for the interesting brides- elect, and was herself guest of honor at a charming affair this morning.
