Mrs. B. P. Davies and little son, Ben,
Jr., went up to Charlotte, N. C., Friday
to visit Mrs. Lena Davies at Queens
College. They were accompainad as
far as Columbi* by Mr. Davies.

Walker, of Appleton, and J. M. Weath-
ersbee, of Rosemary township, were
in the city Monday to attend a meeting*
of the board of county commissioners.
The Barnwell Bond and Mortgage
Company has been .commissioned with
a capital of 110,000. The petitioners
are: Harry D. Calhoun, E. A. Brown,
J. J. Bush, J. A. Porter and L M. Cal
houn.
There were 13,796 bales of cotton
ginned in Barnwell county prior to
September 25, es compared with 20,421
to the aeme date in 1914, .• the
county ranking third in the State.
In Bamberg county 6,992 bales have

with 9,566 La 1914. The total tor the

About twenty-five automobiles filled
With Blackviile boosters took Barnwell
by storm Tuesday afternoon, the pur-
pose of the trip being to advertise the
Chautauqua to be held in the bust ing
little city in the near future.* The visi-
tors were given a warm Welcome by
the people of Barnwell/many i of whom
no doubt will attend the sessions of the
Gen. W. W. Moore, of Columbia, is
preparing to erect a store building be
tween the stores ofLemon Brothers and
the Barnwell Fruit Company, facing
the Circle, which will be occupied by
0. H. and M. C. Best as a drug store
Messrs. Best have already purchased
handsome marble and mahogany' fix
tures and hope to be ready for business
by the 15th of November., They expect
to have one of the most up-to-date
pharmacies in Western Carolina.
Miss Katherine Patterson, who has
been spending the past week in Co
lumbia, returned this afternoon to her
home in Barnwell. Miss Patterson has
shared in the round of charming pf-
fairs given for the interesting brides-
elect, and was herself guest of honor
at a charming affair this morning. A
large circle of friends will welcome her
when she returns a bride and a large
number of affairs are scheduled to be
