Waath.r For*ca*t
Issued by the U. S. Weather Bureau,
Washington, D. C., for the week be
ginning Sept. 22:
Generally fair weather and moderate
temperatures throughout the week.
The prohibitionists won a sweeping
victory in last week's election, but the
fight will just begin on January 1st,
1916, when the law becomes effective.
%
The salvation of the State lies in the
rigid enforcement of the law. If the
officers are lax in the performance of
their duty and allow blind tigers to
flourish, the people will become so
disgusted with the condition of affairs
that they will follow the leadership of
the most blatant demagogue that pro
mises relief.
Perhaps never before have condi
tions in this State been so ideal for the
enforcement of the prohibition law.
There has been going on a gradual
change in the sentiment of the people
against the use of iatoxicants that a
gurs well. Governor Manning, who
i elected an a platform of law and
order, has reiterated his campaign
pledge and calls on the good people of
South Carolina to help him in redeem
ing that pledge. There is reason to
believe that any officer of the law who
fails or refuses to do his duty will be
summarily dismissed.
Another thing that should tend to
keep down the blind tigers is the “gal-
lon-s-month” law, which prohibits any
person from buying more than that
amount of whiskey a month This, we
believe, operates against the express
companies that deliver as well as the
individual who buys liquor. So let us
all—prohis and antis—join hands,to the
end that the strict letter of the tfcw may
be carried out.
