Tuesday on a hunting expedition.

the natatorium, another bath house has
been built to accommodate the large
crowds that daily visit this cool spot.
Mr. and Mrs. G. Norman Snelling
came over from St. George Sunday to
visit relatives and friends here. Mrs.
Snelling will spend some time in the
county.

Wednesday of last week for a visit to
Washington and New York. They will
spend some time in Virginia before

Mr. and Mrs. Byers and little son,

passed through Barnwell Friday morn
ing en route from Hendersonville, N.
C., to their homes in Estill.
Misses Bessie Rast, of Cameron,
Blanche and Edith Brooker and Azilee
Lybrand, of Swansea, have returned to
their homes after a delightful visit to
Mrs. G. M. Greene. While here they
were the recipients of a number of
social honors.

Cants P«r Pound.
The first bale of cotton of the current
crop, in this State, was sold yesterday
for 14 cents a pound on the Charleston
market. F. W. Wagener A Co handled
the bale for its producer, Mr. J. A.
Porter, of Barnwell. It was brought
by W. Gordon McCabe A Co. The bale
classed good middling, and weighed 338

Family Raunion
The annual reunion of the Birt fami
ly was. bold at the home of Capt. G. E.
Birt, of Rosemary township on Wednes
day, the 11th inst. There were 83
persons present, among them being
nine children of Capt. Birt, 14 grand
children and one great-grandchild.
An elegant barbecue and basket picnic
was enjoyed. Just before the depart
ure of his guests, Capt. Birt conducted
a prayer service, invoking”lhe blessing
of the Almighty on those assembled
beneath his roof.
To Speak at Barnwell
The people,of Barnwell and Black
ville are to be congratulated on being
able to hear Hon. Oliver W. Stewart,
of Chicago, 111., on Thursday August
26th at Blackville at 4 p. m. and at
Barnwell at 8 p. m. in the Court House.
Mr. Stewart was one of the men -
hers of the Flying Squadron of America
in the greatest campaign ever under
taken for the temperance cause. The
Squadron was at Columbia, Orange
burg ana Charleston in February of
this year. The Squadron visited 255
cities in 235 days and held 1^00-public
meetings and made more than 3500
addresses. Mr. Stewart will make 40
addresses In 20 days in the State be
ginning at Jonesville and closing at Co
lumbia. The committee in charge have
arranged for the meeting to be free
and the public is invited.
Those who have heard Mr. Stewart
claim he is one of the best speakers
on the American platform and that all
should avail themselves of this rare
opportunity and hear him at one of the
two places.
Mr. Stewart wiJL speak in Allendale
the following afternoon.
An Ordinance.
Be it ordained by the Town Council
of Barnwell, now met and sitting, and
by the authority of the same, thatfrom
and after August 16th, 1915, all doga
found on the streets of the town without
having muzzles on will be impounded
by the marshal and held for , twenty-
four hours, when, if not taken out by
the owner and a fine of two dollars
paid, the marshal will kill said dog.
