merely the shell of one and closer ex

The insect was placed in a glass jar
and covered with alcohol. It has at
tracted considerable attention.
The many friends of Clerk of Court
W. H. Duncan will learn with regret,
that it was necessary for hiiq to'go to ai
Columbia Hospital Tuesday afternoon,
where it is feared an operation will be
necessary to completely restore him to
health. It will be remembered that he
spent several weeks in an Augusta
hospital recently and hoped that a com
plete rest would effect recovery.
As stated in last week’s issue of The
People, the contract for hauling liquor
for the Barnwell County dispensary
was awarded to W. D. Hartzog. Mr.
Hartzog found it impossible, however,
to enter upon his duties before July
1st and at a meeting of the board on
Friday the contract was let to W. I.
Johns, the next lowest bidder, for 1100
-a month. Mr. Johns will begin woik
at once. »
About fifteen members from Har
mony Lodge No. 17, A. F. M., motored
down to Fairfax Tuesday afternoon to
assist in raising five, Fellowcrafts to
the sublime degree of a Master Mason.

casion was thoroughly enjoyed by all

EXAMINATION.
The examination for the award of va
cant scholarships in Winthrop College
and for the admission of new students
will be held at the County Court Houae
on Friday, July 2, at 9 a. m. Appli
cants must not be leas than sixteen
yean of age. When Scholarships are
vacant after July 2 they will he award
ed to those making the highest average
at this examination, provided they meet
the conditions governing the award.

Scholarships are worth 1100 and free
tuition. The next session will open
