The County Board of Commissioners
met here Friday to fisish its work for
the present month.
Messrs. B. B. Easterling and B. P.
Davies msde a business trip to Elko,
Williston and Aiken Thursday.
Dr. L. K. Shirkie, of Orangeburg,
was in town this week, the guest of hia
daughter, Mrs. J. G. Wooley.
Attorneys A. H. Ninestein and H. F.
Buiat, of Blackville, were in town on
professional business Saturday.
Miaa Rebecca Aldrich, of Anderson,
has been the guest of her sitter, Mrs.
W. H. Duncan, for the past few weeks.
• Mrs. T. E. Cummings returned home
Monday, morning from Rock Hill,
where she underwent an operation
several weeks ago.
The long drought in this immediate
section was broken Friday by a heavy
fall of raid. Another downpour visited
Barnwell Tuesday.
The Rev. A. E. Evison and Mr. P. M.
Buckingham are attending the Diocesan
2 Council of the Episcopal Church at
Florence this week.
A barrel of syrup which was being
unloaded at the Willston depot one day
last week fell on a negro, crushing his
bead. He was still alive according to
laat reports.
Mr. J. G. Davis, member of the Barn
well County Dispensary Board, was in
town Tuesday to attend a board meet
ing. which was unavoidably postponed
until Friday.
Toe People has received an invitation
to the commencement exercises of the
College of Charleston, which will be
held at Hibernian Hall on Tuesday
evening, the 18th inst.

While returning from a professional
trip to Aiken Saturday night, two un
known men fired at James A. Willis,
Esq., and the negro driving the automo
bile. Fortunately the bullet went wild-
The shooting occurred about a
mile from Aiken and the would-be
assassins were driving a gray horse or
mule. . ' •
The Dunbarton dispensary was
entered by an' unknown party or par
ties Monday night, according to a tele
gram received Tuesday afternoon by
Clerk I. L. Tobin from Dispenser E. G.
Bolen. Messrs. Tobin and Sexton went
over to Dunbarton Wednesday to
check the stock and see what had been
stolen.
Mr. W. H. Duncan re turned Thurs
day from Augusta where he had been
under treatment at a hospital. He is
_ much improved but is still weak and
will not retui'n to his duties at the
Court House until he has entirely re-
couered, which his friends hope will be
very soon.
The series of meetings which have
. been conducted at the Barnwell Baptist
Church for the past two weeks by the
Rev. J. S. Jones, the “Kneeling Evan
gelist,” came to a close Sunday night.
There were numerous professions of
faith and several were received into
the church by letter.

thut an election will be held in the
Hilda school district No 9, Saturday
May 15th, 1915, for the purpose of
determining whether or not a special
school tax two (2) additional mills shall
be levied in the above named school
district.
The said election shall be conducted
as is provided by law for the holding
of general elections. The polls w ill be
opened at the school house and the
following are hereby appointed mana

Those favoring the proposed levy
