Folk, of Rose mary, was a visitor here Monday. Miss Hallie Armstrong, of Columbia, ^mending some time with her father, J- Armstrong. Messrs. D. A. Dyches, of Hilda, and E. Moore, of Snelling, are recent " purchasers of Ford cars. The county hoard of commissioners met here Friday to finish approving claims for the past month. Messrs. C. H. Mathis, R. B. Fickling and S. R. Boylston, of Blackville, were among the viaitora here Friday. Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Webb and the Rev. and Mrs. Funderburk motored over from Blackville last week in the former’s handsome touring car. A panic was narrowly averted at the Lyric Theatre Thursday night, when an electril light wire was short-circuited. Fortunately no damage resulted. All members of Friendship Church are requested to meet at the church Saturday morning for the purpose of cleaning up the building and grounds. Mr. Earle Harvey and sister, Miss Jessie, and Messrs. Tuten, of Fairfax, and B. Hearse, of Barnwell, were the quests of Misses Edna and Ethel An derson for the last week-end. Master James Best, son 'of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Best, was carried to Colum bia Monday afternoon, where it is feared it will be necessary to have an operation performed for appendicitis. A. H. Ninestein, Esq., of Blackille, was in town onfbusiness Monday. His many friends are glad to know that he nor any of the occupants of his car • were seriously injured in the recent automobile accident In an exciting game of baseball played here Monday afternoon between the locals and Carlisle Fitting School, the visitors suffered their first defeat of the present season,the final score being ^Ato 4. The feature of the game was two-base hit by Christie in the ^Wghth inning, which scored two runs, breaking the tie and winning the game. Sheriff J* B. Morris requests The People to announce that the tax books are closed and executions will be issued as soon as the Treasurer can get same ready. The property of all who fail to pay by June 1st will be levied on and sold to the highest bidder for cash. While the Sheriff does not wish to take this drastic step he tfill be forced to act in accordance with the law. Notice to Contestants. Obeyed the Call. Fairfax, April 10.—Andrew, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Augley, de parted this life March 18, 1915. He was born Dec. 27, 1886, living to be 28 years and three months old. He had been in ill health for a long time and for several months nh hopes whatever were entertained for his recovery, but he bore his afflictions patiently and all feel assured that when God’s call came he was .prepared to go to a better world. , Mr. Augley is aurvived by bis wife, a little daughter, his father, mother and seven sisters. He was a consistent member of the Sycamore Baptist Church The funeral services were conducted in the Saltkehatchie Baptish Church on Friday, March 19th, at 5 o'clock P. M by the Rev. E. A. McDowell, the re mains being laid to rest in the Saltke hatchie cemetery. The warmest sym pathy of many friends goes out to the bereaved family. A Friend. r n 17 l-2c Per Gallon. Quite an enjoyable occasion among the little folk was an Easter egg btint on Monday, Itttle Carroll To^ke win ning first prize. *Mr. W. N. Harper, of Martin, waa the guest of Mr. R. M. Hay on Sunday.
