He is recover ing from a recent severe attack of la Ifrippe. . „ Salesdgy in Barnwell was extremely quiet. There were only two sales made by the Master and very little trading in livestock, Messrs. C. H. Mathis, H. F. Buist, R. B. Fickling and J. R. Woodward motored over from Blackville on busi ness salesday. Messrs. J. E. Harley and G. M. Shep pard went up to Columbia Friday after noon on business, returning home the following day. Misses Thelma Mazursky and Lillie Richardson came down from Winthrop College last week to spend the Easter holiday with Barnwell relatives. The Barnwell County County Midical * Association will hold its regular month ly meeting at Fairfax on Tuesday, the 13th inst. A full attendance is urged. Messrs. J; G. Davis, of Williston, and Martin Lightsey, of Fairfax, newly appointed members pf the dispensary board of control, were in town Thurs day. Dr. J. W. Reeves will not fill his next regular appointment here because of his attendance at the meeting or the State Dental Association. He will tye in his office the-first week in May. Dr. W. M. Jones, of Williston, at tended the meeting of the county board of education here Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Buckingham, Miss Dunbar, Messrs. Harold Buckingham, Frank Dunbar and Frank Bush motored down from Ellenton Tuesday. ; There will be an all-day service at Joyce Branch Church Saturday,the 10th inst, in the interest of missions. It is expected that several good speakers will be present. Dinner will be served on the grounds. Simms, Esq., of the Barnwell bar, as ^ a special judge for the Cherokee county 1 courts beginning in June, to take the place of Judge Spain,- who is disquali-1 fied on account of illness. . ! Capt. Snow was mingled with the downpour of rain, which had been falling all day. The weather was ex tremely cold and fears were entertained for the fruit and othercrops. Although Sunday was fair and warmer, thei e was a heavy frost Monday morning. Voters are remined of the fact that an election on the question of State wide prohibition will beheld September 14 under the same laws that govern geneari elections. Martin, one of Blackville’s brightest young men, has been notified by United States Senator E. D. Smith of his nomination for a scholarship at the Naval academy at Annapolis. An examination for principal, first, second and third alternates was recently held, in which Mr. Martin won the second alternateship. Both the principal and first alternate failed to qualify and Mr. Martin automatically became principal. Mr. Martin will report at Aynapolis for admission as soon as he receives the proper papers from Washington and his friends hope that he will have no diffi culty in qualifying for admission.— Blackville Herald.
