Barnwell, S. C., on Friday, January
15th, 1915, beginning at 9 o’clock A. M. I
and closing at 5 P. M.
This examination is being held to
afford an opportunity for all uncertified |
teachers and all prospective teachers to :
qualify legally. No teacher's salary
warrants can be approved unless a
valid license has been registered in the 1
office of the County Superintendent of I
Education. This is the last opportunity '
for the teachers to meet the certificate
requirement before the regular Spring
examination in May, 1915.
. .This examination will be based upon
the following subjects: Agriculture,
History, English, Algebra, Arithmetic,
Physiology and Hygiene, Civics and
Current Events, Pedagogy and

Col. Alfred Aldrich, of Greenwood,
was in Barnwell last on business. He
is as genial as ever and says hard times,
so-called, are not worrying him in the
least. —

Converse College, in Spartanburg, ar
rived Friday night to spend the holi
days with her parents,, Mr. and Mrs. J.
A. Porter.
The Barnwell Graded School closed
Friday for the Christmas holidays. A
number of the teachers have gone to
their homes for a.eouple of weeks. The
pupils will resume their studies on
Monday, January 4th.
Governor Blease has paroled J. F.
Walker, white, who was convicted of
manslaughter at Hamptop in^February
and sentenced to ten years imprison
ment. Walker killed Policeman Harter,
of Allendale, at Lena sev/eral months
ago. ^ -

and Ben Calhoun, of the Citadel, and
Albert Snelling, John Simms and
Charlie Brown, of Porter’s Military
Academy, are spending the holidays
in Barnwell.
The “Go-Ahead Girls” are filling a
week’s engagement at the opera house
'this week, and the attraction is proving
to be a very popular one. Good crowds
are attending each night. It is not a
dollar show nor does it claim to be, but
it is well worth the price of admission.

Mrs. J. A. Lind^y died af-the home
of her brother, Mr. CliL Swan, in Barn
well, Thursday night, after an illness !
of several weeks. Her body was laid
to rest Saturday in tne famiiyvburying
grounds a few miles from Barnwell, the 1
