Will South Carolina fanners obey the rcotfon acreage law of the extra session of the general assembly? Thb question fs being asked evrey day, and the answer is that they will make every attempt to obey the law. However, there are many .vho do not take this view, writes Joe Sparks in the Augusta Chronicle. "The law is not worth the paper it is written on,” said a well-known state official several days ago. The grain crop will be largely in creased, but still South Carolina farm ers will have to send money beyond the borders for grain and corn. The question of marketing will be one of th^ mbkl fnrportant to be con sidered by the next session of the general assembly. A, state bureau of marketing will very probably be cre ated to give the farmers the best kind of information. This bureau would be placed under the direction of the state department of agriculture. If the grain crop is materially in creased, then grain elevators will be necessary to-handle the crops. During the past year there has been a decreasing interest in the boys’ corn jdpbs. These clubs should be revived this year and thousand^ tff young boys and men shonld be enlisted. At the present time the -size of South Caro lina’s cotton crop will largely depend on the size of the corn crop. .>• Farmers; bankers and merchants in all counties would do well fo offer handsome presents for the best corn produced. This matter may also be brought before the legislature. It is argued that a small appropriation would create much interest in corq production. It would also be well to revive the corn exposition. Corn shows should be held in every county. The tomato club work is going for ward by leaps and bounds, while the corn clubs have been at a standstillT The agricultural experts should get be hind thest; clubs and give them a new start. / ON YOUR CHRISTMAS This year’s Yuletide giving will mark a new epoch in presents—those of wearing apparel taking the lead—in fact, necessities will be much more appreciated than jewelry and trinkets. Our store this year is jammed full of just the things that will be liked by both the big and little folks—articles that mother, father, brother and sister will appreciate. Also the gift for the sweetheart can be found here. Look over the suggestions given below: MY AUTO. My auto, ’tis of thee— Short cut to poverty— Of thee I chant. . I blew a pile of dough For thee two years ago And now you quite refuse to go, Or won’t, or can’t. Through town and countryside You were my joy and pride— Ah, happy day. I loved thy gaudy hue. Thy nice white tires so new; Now you’re down and out for true In every way. To thee, old rattlebox, Came many bumps and knocks— For thee I grieve. Frayed are thy seats and worn, Badly thy top is torn, Whooping cough affects thy horn, I do believe. Thy perfume swells the breeze, While good folks choke and wheeze As we pass by. I paid for thee a -price ’Twould buy a mansion twice Now everybody’s yelling, "Ice!” I wonder why. . * The motor has the grippe, The sparkplug has the pip, And woe is thine. . I, too, have suffered chills, Ague and kindred ills Endeavoring to pay my bills Since thou wert mine. • Gone is my bank roll now,' No more’twould choke the cow, As once before. Yet, if I had the yen, So help me, John—amen, I’d buy myself a car again And spend some more. —Mai Rose Suits Overcoats '« .
