Farmers Have About Pint»kad Gathering
Their Grope.
Seiglingville, Nov. 23 —The farmers
around here are about throug*. gather
ing their crops. Some complain of hard
times, but when one sees the fine po
tatoes, cane syrup and corn beirig
housed -.he does not fear that thejpe is
any danger of starvation for the next
twelve months. Some farmers gre
sowing grain as fast as they finish their
other crops. / v" ‘
Mr. H. J. Moody went down -to Sa
vannah on business last week.
Miss Jennie Barker visited her little
niece, little Frances, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. I. T. Harden, of Ulmer/
who has been very ill with throat
trouble. She is improving slowly, ac
cording to the last report.
Among the visitors from Seiglingville
to the county fair were Mrs. R. W.
Youngblood and daughter, Miss Maude,
Messrs. J. W. Googe, Allen and Gordon
Myrick, H. H. Youngblood, and J. W.
Boyles.
Mr. Henry Goodson and JJiss Mamie,
of Allendale, visited relatives here Sun
day.
Mr. and Mrs. 0. W. Wilson were the
guests of relatives in Columbia Sunday.
Dr. N. F. Kirkland, Sr., of Olar, was
a visitor here this week.
Congressman James F. Byrnes, of
Aiken, was in town Monday shaking
hands with his many friends.
Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Calhoun, of
Blackville, were in town several days
last week enjoying Gala-Trade Week.
Mr. W. P. Blume, of Elko Route No.
1, was in town Saturday and gave the
week a pleasant ending for The People

Miss Flossie Patterson, who is attend-
ieg the College for Women in Columbia
and two school mates, Misses Dot and
Marie Hickman, spent the week-end in
Barnwell.
At a meeting of the stockholders of
the Home Bank of Barnwell last Friday,
Col. N. G. W. Walker, the genial cashier
of this popular institution, was elected
a member of the board of directors.
The F. C. degree was conferred on
two candidates, Messrs. Walter Rich
ardson and Angus Patterson, at a
special communication of Harmony
Lodge No. 17, A. F. M., Tuesday even
ing.
The editor is indebted to Mrs. R. W.
Youngblood, of Seiglingville, for a jar
of delightful stuffed peppers, which
were canned by her daughter, Miss
Maude, an energetic member of the
Tomato Club.
The secretary of state has issued
a charter to the Allendale Hardware
company of Allendale with a capital

I, was a visitor here Thursday and
called very cleverly at The People
office. He expect? to visit his two-sons

bill into the next legislature which will
make it a crime for any resident of the

Death of a Child.
Allendale, Nov. 20.—A few days ago
the tomi was saddened by the death of
the bright, little 5-year-old son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. W. Douglas at the home
of Mrs. Douglas, father, Mr. J. H. C.

Treasurer’s Notice.
The Treasurer’* office will be open
for the collection of State, County and
School taxes levied for the fiscal year
commencing Jan. 1st, 1914, from the
15 day of October, 1914, to 15th day of
March, 1915 inclusive. A penalty of one
per cent will be added from Jan. 1st,
1915 to Jan 31, 1915 inclusive. From
February 1st to February 28, inclusive,
a penalty of two per cent will be added
for all taxes paid in February, 1914.
From the 1st to the 15th of Manm, 1915,
a penalty of seven per cent will be ad
