C. ..r Humble, of Laurinburu, N. C.: ; ? i; . v Rev. Reiter Hunter Hasty, son of Mr. ’ D. W. Hasty of StewarttviHe township, J and member of the Western North Carolina Methodist Conference, died at the home of Mb father Sunday morninit, Oct 18th. Rev. Mr. Hasty was raised in this county and was a life-long mem- ’ * : ber of the Caledonia church. He wasj born May 6th, 1886, and was therefore { 29 years, 5 months and 12 days old ' when death claimed him. Being of a , literary turn of mind he began early to apply himself and after attending the preparatory schools he entered Trinity College, where he studied, during the j sessions of 1904-5 and again during the ! sessions of 1907-8. His life at college ; was one that, in every respect, became ( a Christian young man. He spent sev eral years teaching at Fairfield, N. C., Dunbarton, S. C., and other places, be- j - , • fore entering the ministry. When the writer first met him in the fall of 1910 he waa at home, but interested in every 1 department of the church’s work. For some time he was Superintendent of the Sunday School at Caledonia and ex erted an influence that will tell for many years. At the District confer ence, which met at Biscoe in May, 1911, he waa licensed to preach and recom mended to the annual conference for admiaaion on trial into the traveling connection, into which relation he was admitted at the session of the annual i conference held at Kingston, N. C , in Nov. 1911, and was appointed to the Kennekeet circuit in the extreme east ern part of the State. D. 1914, it being salesday in said month, within the legal hours of sale, the following described real property: All that certain tract or parcel of land, lying, being an J situate in the County of Barnwell, in the State of South Caro lina, containing and measuring 222 acres, more or less and bounded as follows: To-wit: On the North by Edisto River; East by lands of H. D. Still and lands of Angeline M. Ab- stence, formerly of J. Still, on the South by the old Charleston Public Highway; on the West by lands of 0. A. Still. For sometime he was very sick and on the advice of his pnysician he gave up his work and came home to rest. When he began to improve, an opening hav ing occurred in the western part of the State, he was appointed to the Hot Springs circuit, forty miles west of Asheville. He served this field the re mainder of 1912, was reappointed for 1913 and again for 1914. His health failed in June of this year and he was carried to the hospital at Asheville, but steadily grew worse. Two weeks ago he came home to his father’s and died Oct. 18th. The funeral services were | Master’s office, Nov. 17th, 1914. held at Caledonia, conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. W. V. McRae, pastor of the Methodist church st Max- ton. The burial was made in the ceme tery at Caledonia, with Muonic hon ors, a large number of the order being present and taking part. The large congregation present and the many beautiful floral offerings bore silent witness of the high esteem in which he was held. During the summer of 1911 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Wall, of South Carolina, who with one child, a father, three sisters and two brothers, survive him. The writer was much associated with Bro. Hasty for one year and found him always a thoroughly consecrated Christian young man. Doubtless he had hoped to bear the annual roll call of his conference which meets in November, but he has ans wered that final roll call of the great conference above and has taken his place among the millions of faithful ministers of the gospel who passed on before. Thus ends the short ministeri al career of one of our noblest young ministers. Heaven’s blessings on the heartbroken young wife and little child, too young to realize its loss, and upon all the sorrowing family. The Treasurer’s office will be open for the collection of State, County and School taxes levied for the fiscal yeai commencing Jan. 1st, 1914, from the 15 day of October, 1914, to 15th day ol March, 1915 inclusive. A penalty of one per cenf will be added from Jan. 1st, 1915 to Jan 31, 1915 inclusive. From February 1st to February 28, inclusive, a penalty of two per cent will be added for all taxes paid in February, 1914.
