visit to relatives in Colleton county.
Misses Marguerite and Flossie Patter
son left this week for Columbia where

Miss Pauline Richardson, who is
teaching school at Cave's station, spent
the week-end in Barnwell with her
parents.
Mrs. Julia B. Easterling has returned
home after a delightful visit to her
brother, the Rev. C. C. Brown, at
Beaufort.
Mr. Jennings McNab has returned
home after spending a couple of weeks
in Hendersonville, N. C. He is much
improved in health. ^
The Rev. Sohn K. Goode, of Cheraw,
was a welcome visitor to Barnwell
Thursday. He is looking extremely
well and his friends were delighted to
see him again. ’ •*
Saturday, September 26th, has. been
«et apart by the Connie Maxwell Or
phanage as “\Vork Day.” Everybody
is asked to give the earnings of that day
to the Orphanage.
Mrs. J. B. Moore and children left
Tuesday for Anderson for a visit to
•Relatives. While away Mrs.. Moore will
place her daughter, Martha, in the
Cedar Springs school.
Messrs. A. B. and C. L. Langley, of
Columbia, and Charlie Langley, of
Augusta, were among the out-of-town
attendants ft the funeral of Mr. C. C.
Langley13unday morning.

all negroes, were tried in the Mayor’s
court last week, convicted of gambling
and fined $5 each.
Miss Louise Porter left Monday morn
ing for Converse College at Spartan
burg. She was accompanied by her
mother, Mrs. J. A. Porter, who will
spend a few days in ‘‘The City of Suc
cess.”
There will be no preaching at Barn-;
well and Siloam Methodist Churches

the Rev. W. J. Sunday, who is spend

The governor has paroled Ralph
Boyleston, white, who was convicted
of murder with recommendation to
mercy in the July, 1909, term, Barnwell
county, and sentenced by Judge Thom
as S. Sease to life improsment.
As a result of the ‘‘buy-a-bale” move
ment which is sweeping the country,
Merchant J. A. Porter was instructed
to purchase^ bale of cotton at 10 cents
a pound forihe Pansy Flour Mills. The
bale was bought from Mr. W. H. Gil-
lam, Jr„ who lives near Barnwell, and
exhibited in front of Mr. Porter’s store.
