Judge John K. Snelling attended the funeral of Mrs. Lucia Lott at Elko yesterday. The\E. A. degree was conferred on four candidates at a special communi cation of Harmony Lodge No. 17, A. F. M., Wednesday evening. The Rev. A. |R Evison and the Hon. C. C. Simms, who attended the Dio cesan Council at Greenville last week, returned to Barnwell Friday. Mr. J. G. Howell, formerly manager the Eau Claire Drug Store in Colum bia, has accepted a position with Hug gins’ Drug Store. He comes well rec ommended and will no doubt make many friends for this popular pharma cy. The People received an invitation last week to attend the commencement at Hibernian Hall on Tuesday, the 19th inst. Among the list of graduates is Mr. D. B. Lancaster, son of Mr. J. H. Lancaster, of Barnwell. Supt. W. C. Alien, who was re-elect ed Superintendent of the Barnwell schools in April, has tendered his res ignation to take effect May 29th. Mr. Allen will begin June 1st his new duties as Superintendent of Schools in Weldom, N. C., his native town, to which position he was elected about ten days ago. ., Sunday School Picnic. The Sunday school picnic, given by Green’s Academy on last Friday was one of great success. A table of one hundred feet was laden with good things to eat, pre pared by the good mothers arid pretty daughters. Everybody was invited to the table and by request, Mr. G. E. Birt, in approvriate and beautiful words, asked the blessing of God on the food of which we were about to partake. The prosperity of that section of Barnwell County was evidenced by the splendid spread. After dinner Supt. Horace J. Crouch delivered an address on education, after which the following gentlemen were called upon: Messrs. J.'M. Weath- ersbee, R. E. Woodward, J. W. Folk, T. J. Grubbs and J. B.
