More cotton is up and the stands are much better than was the case in June, 1913. Much cotton re-’ mains to be planted .however. A party of town fishermen enjoyed a fish fry at Saltkehatchie Tuesday. Mr. Zack Creighton, of Ridgeland, spent the week-end with relatives and friends here. Barnwell was well represented at the reunion of Caipp Morrall at Meyer’s Mill Friday. Messrs. C. H. Mathis and W. J. Birt motored oyer from Blackville on busi ness Monday. J. Emile Harley, Esq., left Saturday afternoon for Washington and New /Jfork on professional business. " ‘ Nettie Grimes, of Elko Route No. tas in Barnwell Saturday. She has een a reader of The People for many years and still enjoys its weekly visits to her home. “Dr. Devine,” by local talent, was repeated by request at the Palmetto Theatre Wednesday evening. One- fourth of the door receipts was given to the local ball team. The Home Building and Loan Associa tion of Bamberg has been charactered with an ultimate capital of 150,000. The officers are: G. F. Hair, president; J. J. Smoak, vice-president; W. D. Cole man, secretary and treasurer. Workmen have begun remodelling the stores of Mr. B. Mazursky on vVesf Main Street. An additional story will be added and the building' otherwise 1 improved. When completed this will be one of the handsomest stores in the city. ' _____ Mr. W. H. Hartzog, of Blackville Route No. 2, doesn’t get to Barnwell eften, but when he comes he never fails to look up The People and put himself in good standing. His visit Saturday gave the week a pleasant ending. Miss Agatha Faust, of Barnwell Route No. 1, was in town Thursday. She is a member of The People’s poultry club and reports that out of a dozen eggs eleven “biddies” were hatched and all living.
