THURSDAY. DECEMBER 25, 1913.
I
A Merry Christmas.
For the thirty seventh time The
Barnwell People wishes its friends
and subscribers A Merry Christmas.
Many changes have come about in the
past twelve months and to numbers of
you this glad Christmas time will be
tinged with sadness. Perhaps the
Grim Reaper has entered your home
and left there a vacant chair. Perhaps
unfortunate financial reverses have
have cast a gloom over your feelings.
But whatever the cause, you can still
be happy in this'season of “Peace on
earth, good will towards men” through
the medium of giving. One does not
have to give much, as measured by the
standard of dollars and cents, to bring
joy to the heart of some one near and
dear or to one in more dire circum
stances, and enjoy the happiness re
flected from that person’s .heart. It is
or should be, the spirit that prompts the
action—the knowing that one is not
forgotten—rather than the gift itself,
that gives pleasure.
Once more we say: “A Merry Christ
mas and may God bless you each and
every one.”
The People earnestly hopes that no
little child in Barnwell County who lays
himself or herself down to sleep on
Christmas Eve night with the fond hope
that Santa Claus will fill the tiny stock
ing to overflowing is going to be disap
pointed. Blessed as we have been
with good crops and excellent prices
there should be no little aching hearts
on the joyous Christmas morn.
