IJND LANDS SAFELY'.
No Opposition is Met by Wilson’s
Special Messenger.
Not the slightest opposition was
planned by the port authorities at
Vera Cruz to the landing of John
Idnd, who was expected to arrive on
board the battleship New Hampshire
about noon Tuesday.
Awaiting Mr. Lind’s arrival were
the American Consul, Wm. W. Can
ada, and Dr. William Bayard Hale,
personal representative of President
Wilson. Mr. Lind proceeded casually
to Mexico City, and there his recep
tion was uneventful.
The attitude of the authorities is
taken generally as a reflection of
what may be expected at the Mexican
capital. They regard Mr. Lind alm-

It is claimed that tiie plants could
bo placed closer together and more
grown to the acre than is now the
case, and that the farmers would be
more careful in their seed selection.
Now as to the texture of the staple
that is artificially matured: Mr. Hall
claims that it is far superior to the
same grade of cot,ton naturally ma
tured “because cotton as matured
now on the field while waiting to be
picked, is subjected to the dews or
chill of the night followed by the
heat of the sun next day or possibly
some days of rain or climatic condi
tions of some kind, together with tiie
dirt or dust blown on the cotton. The
gloss on the artificially matured cot
ton woulp be of a brilliancy and
whiteness, free from all weather
stains, far superior to that possible
on any cotton naturally matured and
exposed to deteriorating weather con
ditions. The fibre also would cer
tainly be much stronger for the same
reason ” It is pointed out that by
picking the bolls three weeks or a
month before maturity the strength
of the plant would would be increas
ed and the remaining bolls would
grow larger from the Increased aub-
atance they would obtain from the
plant, and In addition tha boll* would
be saved from L^e weather and Insect

Possessed their former grace no more
And not songster was astir.
My heart was broken yesterday
By one who flung a rose ‘o me;
But yesterday is far away.
And all the future is to be!
Another sweetly listened while
I lingered with her to complain,
And sympathy was in her smile;
The past is yonder many a mile,
My eager heart is whole again.

ZACHKY CASE CONFUSED.
Requisition Refused—Georgia S»-
preme Court Reverse* Decision.
The Supreme Court of Georgls-
Tuejday reversed the decision of
Judge Hammond, of Augusta, award
ing the two Zachry children to the
father, J. J. Zachry thereby further
complicating the sensational case in'
which requisition papers by Govern
or Blease for Zachry were refused by
Governor Slaton Tuesday.
Acoerdlng to the ruling of the Su
preme Court, the decision awarding
the children to the father is reversed
and remanded to Judge Hammond’s
Court for further hearing. The rul
ing further specifies his discretion in
awarding the custody of the children,
which is contrary to the opinion ren
dered by Judge Hammond, who held
previously that he was forced to
award the children to Zachry because
of a previous Judgment.
