Misses Mary Ella and Ethel Hughes,
accompanied by Master Willie Jones, of
Hephzibah, are visiting friends and rela
tives in Elko, S. C. They willalso visit
in Orangeburg, S. C., before returning.
Sunday’s Augusta Chronicle.
A recent trip through several coun
ties in the State reveals the fact that
the crops in this county are as good, if
not better, than the crops in the coun
ties visited. The corn crop promises
to be an exceptionally good one, but
cotton is backward.
The Rev. and Mrs. A. E. Evison left
Tuesday morning for Hendersonville,
N. C., where they will enjoy the cool
ness and beauty of the Land of the Sky
during the month of July. There will
be no services at the Episcopal Church
during the absence of Mr. Evison.
Mrs. J. C. Griffin and charming daugh
ter, Miss Frances, of Robbins, S. C.,
passed through the city Friday for At
lanta. From there they will make an
extended trip to Washington, Baltimore
and Erie, Pa., where they will visit

The attention of The People's readers
is called to the scholarship and en
trance examinations that are to be held
at Barnwell this month.
On tomorrow, July 4th, an examina
tion for the award of a four-year schol
arship in Wmthrop College will be held
at the Court lipase, commencing at
o’clock. This scholarship is worth I1UU
and free tuition.
Tomorrow week, July lllh, the
Clemson scholarship and entrance ex
aminations will be held, beginning at
the same hour, 9 o’clock. There are
two vacant scholarships at Clemson,
of Lmg Branch, recently completed a Lone one-year and one four-year,
business course at Osborne’s in Augus
ta, leading his entire class.
General W. W. Moore and son, Til-
linghast. motored down from Columbia
Sunday morning on a short visit to
Barnwell relatives and friends.
Messrs. B. D. Cain, Harry D. Calhoun
and W. V. Richardson, motored to Bal-
doc Saturday in Mr. Cain’s automobile
to attend the basket picnic at that place.
Miss Harriett Olive will leave to
morrow for Barnwell, S. C., where she
has accepted a position with Messrs.

Ronald C. Gyles, of Blackville, who
has just finished his sophomore year at
Wake Forest College, has received
notice of his election by the faculty as
inttructor in physiojogy at Wake Forest
College, N. C.
Capt, N. M. Walker was a welcome
vistor to Barnwell Tuesday. He reports
crops in his section as being in excell*
ent condition. He expects to make a
bale of cotton to the acre on his own
fine plantation.
Entrance examinations for the Col
lege of Charleston will be held at the
same time and place those for Clemson.
A free tuition scholarship in this col
lege is assigned to each county of the
State.
