By showing an utter disregard of law and respect for the property rights of their fellow citizens, the militant suffra gettes of England are trying to force recognition of their demands for “votes for women.” What a paradox! The more we read about Woodrow Wilson, the more we are impressed with the greatness of the man. He is without doubt one of the "biggest” men the United States has produced in many years. And while they are congratulating The State on “cutting out” whiskey advertisements, won’t somebody please pat The People on the back for never having started their publication.-' Dearly beloved, dost though love The People? Then do not squander time in sending us that past due sub scription money for that is the stuff of which newspapers are made. A man with one eye could see all of Barnwell at glance.—Allendale Her ald. Yea, but then it only takes half an eye to see all of Allendale enough has been said. They walk with their heads up high from conscious innocence and inherent integrity So far as their meeting the require ments of the Constitution is concerned, anybody that can work the single rule of three, anybody that can work or un derstand a triangle, anybody that can work or understand the means by which the distance to the moon, the sun or the North Star knows that these three men are a perfect equation to the Constitution. Yours very truly, N. F. Kirkland, Jr., Allendale, S. O: April 7, 1913. (The People is indeed glad to publish the above extracts from a letter re ceived Saturday from Dr. Kirkland. His letter is more proof that we are right in our assertion that three mighty good men have been turned down.— Editor.) ^ Bamberg Socials. Bamberg, April 12.—Miss Blanche Hair is at home for a few days from Greenville Female college. Charles I). Felder has returned home after spending some time in Ashe ville. Mrs. J. E Sally, of Orangeburg, spent several days here last week. The announcement of the approach ing marriage of Bissell Beach to Miss Bess Gibson of McColl has been re ceived here with a great deal of inter est. Miss Gibson spent the past year here as a teacher at the Carlisle fitting school. Miss Bernie Counts left Monday af ternoon for the mountains of North Carolina, where she will spend some time. Henry F. Bamberg went to Asheville on Wednesday for a stay of a few months. Miss Louise Folic has returned to Converse college, after a short visit home. Miss Irma Black is at home from Greenville Female college on a visit to her parents. Mrs. E. J. Wannamaker of Orange burg visited here recently. Messrs. G. M. Sibert and H F. Mc- Gown attended the dance at Orange burg Wednesday night. Mrs A. M Brabham is visiting rela tives in Columbia. I Of til tweet word! of tongue or pen, the fweetelt are thete from the dear delinquent luhlcnber: “Pleale find eacloled check”—or money order, a$ fhe cale may be. No, Celeatine, Mr. Horace J. Crouch, the “Burbank of Barnwell County,” does not grow the toast to sen e with his new variety of asparagus. A recent headline read: “Dayton Ap peal! for Water.” And that, too, right after a flood. Gee, that must be some “dry” town. 3i iC DC =[ 1 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. □ =J DC Was Good to “His Boys.” It gives us much pleasure to publish the following letter, received last w«ek, from a former member of The * People force: anu Brookland, D. C. ** v April tith, 1913. Mr. B. P. Davies. Dear Ben: I am more than pleased with the splendid paper you are pub- Tishing. It is fulT of good, dfcafT neWs,- and stands for the moral uplift of the community. Its typographical appear ance is also very gratifying. When I wandered from the pleasant scenes of old Barnwell-in 1891, The People followed me wherever I went, because our very dear departed friend, Major Holmes, was good to “his boys” and wanted to keep me posted on af fairs at home. I believe I was the first boy to serve in his office the full four year’s apprenticeship required by the art preservative. As my mind goes back to the days some twenty-odd years ago I well remember many evi dences of the Major’s good will toward me, aud I shall truly miss him when I me to Barnwell again. It is very tifying to see you are conducting e paper upon the same high plane maintained by him. I wish you very great success, and you will please find my subscription inclosed. Sincerely, Claude A.
