for what they are worth. If true, the
condition of affairs in South. Carolina is
indeed in bad shape. The drummer

more evidence of whiskey-drinking

Th< Man and Hi* Salary-
“A man who gives his wife all his
salary is no man at all,’’ declared Judge
John J. Dobcr, of the supreme bench
of Baltimore, in the criminal court yes-

Rot, judge. You may know law, but
you do not know human nature in
America.

DEATHS.
Aim eat* Creech.
On February 2nd, the death angel
visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geter
Creech and bore away their little nine
months old daughter, Almeata. She
was sick hut a short time and her death
came unexpectedly and was a shock to
every one. Almeta was a sweet and
affectionate baby and to know her was
to love her.
All that medical skill and loving
hands could do was done hut of no
avail, as God saw fit to take her and
called her to the heavenly home above.
May God bless the bereaved parents.
A Friend. .
The Time for Praise.
When a man dies it is a noticeable
fact that many people have good words
to say about him and preform in an os
tentatious manner many kind acts to
ward him. His former competitors in
business attend the funeral and per
form many kindly offices for the dead,
when he is fairly out of the way. Now,
if these kind words were said when he
w r as alive and pulling hard against the
stream, he would have appreciated it
more. But we have noticed at
funerals men who a few days or weeks
before could not find words mean
enough to U-se against the poor man m
the coffin. You might as well stay
away. The kindly offices after death
are not appreciated by the man in thr
box, and the folk* at the funeral only
smile in their sleeves and size you up.
Give your good words when they are
needed. Do your gixxt works when
they do good. Do not throw on the
thin gauze of sympathy a the funeral;
everybody can see trough it—Fort
Mill Times.
