Forty-five people, all members of
one of the most prominent and well-
to-do families of Emanuel County,
poisoned by barbecue meat.
Four of the family dead, and little
hope held out for seven others. Thir
teen members of one household in a
more or less serious condition, and
neaily as many In another home of
same family.
A corps of four trained nurses
rushed from Augusta to the scene of
suffering. Briefly, that is the story,
lo date of the aftermath of the Can
ady family reunion on the Fourth of
July, "Matilee,” at the plantation
home of Mr. Mack Canady, ten miles
from Garfield, Ga.
The dead are: H. Tillman Cana
dy, prominent planter of the same i
neighborhood, who died Saturday |
