The Hon. J. S. Brice writes the following to the Yorkvilie Enquirer: If there was one liquor house that swindled Soutli Carolina out of more money than any other during the reign of the State dispensary, it was the Richmond Distilling Company, and at the same time the Ansel com mission was removed by • * • the present Governor, this same Felder you speak of had a suit pending against them for five hundred thou sand dollars, and they had offered to compromise this suit for one hun dred thousand dollars in cash. The State says Senator Summers at the meeting Wednesday nigh! moved to call from the engrossing department the bill that will place the election of the office of the cam- missioner of agriculture, commerce and immigration in the primary in order to amend the title. This was carried. Senator Appelt offered an amend ment to strike out the provision that shall require the governor to hold in office the present commissioner un til his successor has qualified. On the presentation of this motion Senator Summers said that he had consulted a number of persons and they all seemed to be In favor of the measure. The Democrats of the State will hold their Convention on May 21, at which time the four delegates at large and the district delegates, four teen in number, will tie chosen to the National Democratic Convention, which will be held in Baltimore. Britt Stanley, who Is wanted for several safe robberies, two murders and on the charge of having a number of wives, and his pal, D. M. Cheeks, were arrested and are now in the county jail. That the o'hcers have one of the worst criminals in the country seems to be a fact as the photograph of the man wanted for several crimes fits him exactly. He is wanted in Val dosta, Ga., and Atlanta, (fa., for blow ing open two safes; wantel on the charge of murder in North Carolina and also in Georgia.
