out of all the military men of abe (Hate

mander of the C -ast Artillery, South
Carolina National Guard. He is a son
of Major K. 8. Hammond and grandson
of tbe distinguished Governor and
United States Senator of tbe splendid
ante-bellum years. After graduating
from tbe South Carolina Military Acad
emy he took the law course In the
State University and bas for several
ears practiced with signal soecsss In
hilurabla. He bas filled numerous
military positions most creditably en

in their automobiles advertising tbe
County Fair. While this Is something
new for old Barnwell yet we hope that
it will be a grand sueoees, and the only
way to make It so Is for all to join In
and help.
Endowment Lodge No. 13T, Knights
of Pvthlaa had n pleasant meeting on
Thursday evening last. In addition to
tbe business session the Hon James F.
Byrnea of Aiken, our District Deputy
Grand Chancellor, delivered an exoel'
lent address on Pytblanlsm and Its
principles, which was vary much en
joyed by all. After tbe address dinner
was served by the good ladies of the
community. The members were loud
